As the size of devices incorporating memories continues to shrink, the size of the memory cells within these memories is also decreasing. One aspect of the process of decreasing the size of these memory cells is the increase in leakage current, which is the leakage current resulting from the memory cell being in an active or “on” state. With smaller devices, the amount of leakage current can be larger relative to the amount of current passing through the memory cell when the cell is in an “off” state. This relative increase in leakage current is problematic for many memory cells, as these cells may be forced to operate at levels below their intended design point and may be subjected to other problems relating to these low operating levels.
